Subject: re: Complaints to Upperdeck - by ^BahamutDuo^

While I can see why this guy is complaining about the dramatic change in the rarity of Yatagarasu and Injection Fairy Lily, he obviously hasn't done his homework about why this is.

Yata Garasu and IFL DRAMATICALLY change the tide of a game. In the sense that they both can end it, without effort. When these 2 cards where released in Japan, they had to be restricted to 1 right away, because people where building decks around cards that were easy to get, and winning without effort. Regular rares come in one out of every 2 japanese packs. So what happened? Players were pissed because they had 3 yata's or IFL's and couldn't play them.

By making these 2 monsters Secret Rare, it is limiting people from getting several.

Next, UD is changing the names and pictures on cards because JAPANESE CULTURE IS DIFFERENT FROM AMERICAN CULTURE. The American public has a phobia of anything involving skin or religious views contrary to thier own. (note: in general, i don't speak for everyone.) Demons and Angels are biblical references, and if you look at alot of japanese cards, there is alot of cleavage and, in some cases, vague nudity. This is because Japanese culture doesn't treat nudity as something evil. Yes it is limited there, but not to the extremes of north american views.

Now, Upper deck is not out to get you. The reason alot of these cards cost more is the cost of printing them. UpperDeck tends to splurge a bit with their printing. they use higher grade materials than WotC, because Upperdeck is the LARGEST card producer in North America, if not the world. They can afford to spend more on materials, therefore their products cost more.

The other reason for the cards to cost more is demand. Everyone (even if
grudgingly) admits that Yu-Gi-Oh! is huge right now. People want the cards, there for cost goes up. It's called the law of Supply and Demand. As demand goes up, Supply goes down, therefore Cost goes up, and vice versa. Magic, while the longest lasting CCG's, has a dedicate fan base, and they are the one's buying singles, the average player doesn't buy them, they just buy packs and hope for the best.

I have nothing against duelists on a budget, infact, I have had some of my best duels against budget players. And don't assume that I'm rich either, cause I'm too in debt to be rich.

but a closed pack duel does sound good...
